The Kumari team is Monty, Sangeeta & everyone else! With your help 2009 was a wild, fun and unforgettable ride. We had a blast working with all the couples, vendors & chai wallas (special thanks to Rishi, Sherry Vanstone & Priya from PS Mokha). 

This video is dedicated to everyone who has made our job so fun. To the brides & grooms that trusted our vision and their amazingly supportive friends & families. You are our real Oscar Winners. :)

Reena & Colin's Winterlicious Engagement Shoot Part 1

At some point in our lives the meaning of winter changes. Long gone are the days of our youth where we anxiously gaze out the living room window watching the tiny white flakes build up with eager anticipation. The thought of being enveloped in snow seemed liked the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Ahh... those were 'the good ol' days'. Sadly, many of us have lost our childhood fascination of the snow. However, all that was just about to change for Colin and Reena on their winterlicious engagement shoot.

Rekindling old memories we threw caution to the wind (or should we say snow) and made the most of this wonderful season. Exploring backyards, back alleys and back country we reconnected with our inner child. Building snowmen, sledding down hills  and hiking brought back fond memories for all of us, but perhaps the one we enjoyed most was the steaming cup of hot chocolate (tea...really) and a warm fireplace.

Needless to say this was one of our funnest shoots yet. We consider ourselves lucky to have meet such a fun loving couple. Thanks Colin & Reena, and we can't wait for your wedding!

 

 

 

 

 

Ovais and Manal's Engagement Shoot

We thrive on creative collaboration with our clients. Manal came to us last week with some really fun engagement shoot ideas. We love it when people come to us with a vision...it makes the shoot extremely fun and relaxed. With a car full of balloons and our first winter storm on it's way, Manal and Orvis braved the cold for some amazing photo opportunities in High Park. Trying not to shiver in below zero temperatures with only a dress is a herculean task meant only for the most strongest willed models! After this shoot, I think Manal deserves a running in the Canada's Next Top Model!

Manal looks like a snow princess here...we usually don't over edit our photos as we try to be as perfect as possible in camera. But this photo we had some fun editing and really liked the effect!

 

 

 

 
          

Anthony & Nisha's Engagement Shoot

Nisha & Anthony wanted a winter wonderland shoot, but this winter has seemed anything but. Despite the few flakes left on the ground we still were determined to capture their personalities and vision. We pinned our hopes on the Brickworks and it's perennial white backdrop. Our hopes for some of the white gold were quickly dashed by an overnight warm spell, but we had one last trick up our sleeves. We made our way across the street to Todmorden MIlls where we collected the last bits of snow and blew our own winter magic.

Now most people who blow snow onto their clients faces wouldn't typically expect smiles and thanks... but that what makes our job so fun! We had a blast and hope we managed to capture that winter season despite Mother Nature resistance. 

 

 

   

Linda & Jackson's Engagement Shoot

The mercury dropping, leaves falling and the final harvest before the first frost might all signal the end to a season for most, however for some adventurous souls it is when Canada's Wonderland (Toronto's roller coaster park) closes it's doors for the season.

In an serendipitous symbolic shoot, our final engagement of the season* took place also the final day of the park and the fall season (unofficially last day of october... well at least for Canadians). Linda & Jackson payed up the park life feel, taking advantage of the rides, games & colour filled backdrops.

From there we took a drive up the picturesque highway 27, to round out the the shoot with a rural country feel. Linda, a self admitted 'Twilight' uber-fan, wanted a dark and mysterious feel to the photos. We were only too happy to oblige and hope we captured the feel in our photos.

Meg & Raj's Engagement Shoot

Meg & Raj  are one of the sweetest couples you'd ever meet...they're always laughing and having fun..which makes our job so much easier! Meg carried the shoot with charm and vigor, while
Satraj was chillin' with what seemed like an endless supply of lattes on the blustery cold day.

Starting in High Park where the season just turned into a medley of vibrant colors, the adventurous couple played in the leaves... well to put it bluntly Raj (who we think was an Olympic sprinter in his past life) basically plastered Meg with leaves while she screamed and giggled...not quite able to return the favour.

We then headed to Harbor Front for some Toronto skyline shots late in the evening. With numb fingers and chattering teeth but the result was a beautiful shoot with color and feeling.

Brenda & Shaylesh's Engagement Photos

The fall season ushers in many long awaited annual treats: freshly baked pumpkin pie, the visual tapestry of colored leaves and the variety of seasonal festivities. Of which Octoberfest is one of the oldest and most widely celebrated. A celebration of all things German that Brenda & Shalyesh thought would be great to use as a backdrop in their engagement shoot. 

Our rendezvous was in Unionville where we were looking to capture the spirit of the event, only to be disappointed by the rather typical weekend shoppers and toy dogs. There were of course traditionally dressed musicians, but alas even their lederhosen and feathered hats traversed that fine line between tacky tourist and German tradition. 

The Kumari crew is not easily thwarted, and with a little (ok a lot) of support from the fearless and determined Brenda pulled off one of our favorite shoots. At one point Brenda scaled a building in 4 inch heals to help compose a shot perched atop a roof. After using the off angles & heights of the historic street, we headed out for a little fun in the country. Pumpkins, apple cider & hay bales turned out to be just what the shoot needed to capture the season.

The Harvest Adventure of Amanda & Jaime's Engagement Shoot

On a brisk Autumn day, in an apple farm not far far away Jaime & Amanda set out to indulge into the flavour of the season. For chefs & foodies the harvest season parallels Christmas with the chance to create culinary delights with the gifts of local farmers. Our destination, Archibold's Orchard hit the mark for both our appetites & cameras. 

While the arrival of fall chases many into hibernation, the brave & adventurous are treated to a tapestry of colours and flavours. We certainly used this opportunity to bring the season into the engagement shoot. Threatening rainclouds dogged us all day, but with the luck of the Scottish (props to Jaime) we came through it with a fantastic reel of photos and a basket of freshly picked apples. 

Our thanks to the couple for making us part of their adventure. We are looking forward to the big day (and the pear jam recipe we were promised!). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Maduni & Nicholas' Engagement Shoot

Visitors to Toronto's Centre Island, will undoubtedly return with great memories of carnival games, quad-bike rides and sugar laden treats. Sounds like a perfect setting for an engagement shoot, no?

Well, when we set out to shoot Mahuni & Nicolas on the adventurous island we were caught off guard on several fronts. Our evening light was dropping faster than a Led Zeppelin, the amusement park's seasonal closure made it resemble a Scooby-doo cartoon mystery and the lack of sugar filled treats weighed down our normally buoyant spirits.

DISASTER?!?!!... perhaps for some, but with a little luck ingenuity & determination we set out and hit the ground running. From their first look to the chilly ferry back to the mainland, Maduni & Nicholas played the camera perfectly.

Romantic, seductive & sexy and not the first thoughts people have when setting out to the island, but after  this photo shoot we might have a few of you thinking otherwise. Thank you Maduni & Nicholas for braving the cold air & chilly waters... we had a great time & can't wait until your SUMMER wedding!

 

 

Dorothy, Stanley & Maverick's Engagment Shoot

Kumari loves animal companions & animal companions love our lenses! The playful & loveable Maverick stole the show when shot Dorothy & Stanley's engagement shoot. Bounding about rambunctiously he turned the tables on Stanley & Dorothy by taking them for a walk. Maverick loved the cameras, and eagerly awaiting an agent to launch his on-screen career. 

After Maverick took his final bow, the evening light was quickly fading. Darting into dimly lit candy shops, coffee shops and alleyways we captured those tender moments which every engaged couple experiences. When the twilight had given way to the darkness, we created our own light by creatively lighting the happy couple. Set against the night, the romance & mystery of a night shoot shone through. With the couple eagerly awaiting their wedding later this month, we got a chance to capture the tenderness of their final few days before uniting their lives.
